More Gore

Since even my wife is hollering for more gory pictures of my finger, here is a photo diary of my finger over the last couple days.

This is a picture from the 18th, 4 days after spilling bacon grease on my fingers:

Here's me giving the camera the finger, so to speak:

This is a picture from the 19th, as the blister is approaching its largest size:

Below is the largest the blister became. I could barely move the finger due to the pressure.

Below, some of the fluid seems to have been absorbed back into my body by the 22nd, because I can bend my finger enough to straighten it all the way.

Today, I went to a hand surgeon to have the blister "deroofed." I guess my finger has a skylight now.

The skin underneath is raw, but it's reminiscent of newborn baby skin. It's strong enough to be washed with soap and water, and I can start taking showers without a bag on my hand again. Woo hoo!

  3. Holy Macaroni.

I am looking at these pics as my significant other is cooking bacon.

I just showed her the pics as a warning of what not to do.

  4. I'm not kidding, she is really cooking bacon. It's maple flavored, so it smells really good...

Can't get the image of that blister out of my mind though.

  5. The bacon I burned myself with was applewood smoked, if that makes a difference.

  6. Applewood burns the most.

I dunno, I generally wait until the grease congeals before I try to dispose of it.

  7. Me too, but we were using the bacon in a recipe, not sitting down and eating it as the pan cooled. I think we needed the pan off the burner, so I wanted to drain the grease. When it's cool, I've never spilled a drop... but maybe the time of day or multiple chefs in the kitchen or the change in viscosity while hot contributed to major miscalculation.

I seriously considered chopping off my fingers to avoid the pain, though it felt much better in ice water.

  8. You what? I randomly thought about this post today and want to ask: What's with the Freddy Krueger sweater?

  9. I wear a lot of solid color and striped shirts. As I write this, I'm actually wearing a dark and light blue striped shirt that I got the same time as that one (not a sweater, I think it's technically thermal underwear).
