I tend to have a pretty good, and often very weird, sense of humor, but I really don't see anything funny about this verse--I totally understand what is being said here.
Christians are constantly talking about family values, but I don't think the New Testament puts much emphasis on it (but that's the case with most cults - cut the close ties and then exploit).
