The most common argument I hear in “defense” of religion is that religion has good intentions and isn’t hurting anyone. If reading something like this doesn’t make you want to slap the person you wrote the pamphlet, you’re part of the problem.
A young woman doing her job at a drive-thru window was handed a pamphlet by a woman in a car. Among the quotes from the pamphlet:
- “You may have been given this leaflet because of the way you are dressed. Have you thought about standing before the true and living God to be judged?”
-“Scripture tells us that when a man looks on a woman to lust for her he has already committed adultery in his heart. If you are dressed in a way that tempts a men to do this secret (or not so secret) sin, you are a participant in the sin.”
- “By the way, some rape victims would not have been raped if they had dressed properly. So can we really say they were innocent victims?”
I think a rape victim given this pamphlet should be allowed to legally rip the face off of the person who hands it to them.
If you blame rape on a woman's appearance, please move to the Middle East. They already harbor attitudes like that over there. You won’t have to lobby for any kind of changes to society; women are required by law in many places to cover up modestly. The women also “know their place” over there, and everyone is really into God.
Christians: your religion is completely fucked.

ReplyDeleteIf I interviewed 100 Atheists and asked all of them 3 questions.... hang on a minute, I need to get a calculator..ah yes, that would be 300 comments. And then I took the top ten stupidest things they said and wrote a book about why atheism is idiotic, yet I only used those 10 responses, would you think that would be a fair outlook on atheism?
Don't you ever scratch your head when an Atheist says something you think is absurd? We Christians scratch our heads to at people and religion when things like this are done.
Also, in order to be fair, Who knows about this loser who passed this pamphlet out? He could be a Fred Phelps or something? And no Christian I know thinks for one second Fred Phelps is a Christian. He's a psychotic drug induced hate filled man who uses Christianity as a platform to control his followers, who by the way are very few in number and mostly young children and relatives.
On a side note, I dig chicks that dress hot.

ReplyDeleteFair outlook? No. JD's blog? Yes.
Also, there's no "Atheist Bible" which advocates misogyny. Christianity continues the oppression of females in many parts of the world, even in corners of America. If you believe the Bible says women are anything but property, you aren't reading it.
As I said, your religion is fucked. The flaws are inherent in the pathetically designed framework, and there's nothing left to do but abandon it to historical study.

ReplyDeleteSo Atheists can't be held accountable for anything because you don't have an atheist bible?
We (USA) have laws that should protect people, like mistreated women. And I say prosecute anyone who breaks the law. It will be impossible to control the way people think and interpret the Bible. So I'm thankful for legislation.

If an atheist treats a woman as property, he is ignorant. If a Christian treats a woman as property, he is literate.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great come back, I have no response after that, that wouldn't sound lame.
ReplyDeleteGood night Geenks, feen
I'm just in a bad mood because this week, I found out I have to move to the south.

ReplyDeleteWe don't have articles of faith which utilize dogmatic loyalty in such a that compels us to act in accordance to those scriptures which command atrocious crimes of hate and inequality.
When an atheist does something wrong, they take the blame. They can't shift that blame off on religion or God.
That's the difference. But everyone ought to be held accountable... religious types just like to get away with it first... then say, God has forgiven me, or when another Christian misbehaves, they say God will judge them at the end of time.
Why not just simply hold people accountable for their crimes? How hard is it to do that?
Like the woman in the rape article stated:
“Rape happens to 2-year-olds and 92-year-olds, not just attractive young women. How about we hold the person doing the action accountable, whoever it is going against the will and consent of somebody else?” —Sandra G. Rasnake, sexual assault program director at Bristol’s Crisis Center
Hey Tink, long time no...
ReplyDeleteGeenks, You gotta move? Like down in the Bible Belt, or like South like South Pittsburgh? You getta job down there? Sorry to be nosy.
T-Vick, I agree. But when someone says "God has forgiven me" I say "good for you, but we haven't. So you need to spend the next 40 years in prison.

Let's just put this as simply as possible, OK? There is no god. All that is, is. The universe created itself. The universe is the creator of all things. The universe created religion. It created Christianity.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, the universe created misogyny. All for no reason whatsoever.
Tristan D. Vick,
ReplyDeleteWhat is a crime? Says who? Why should anyone care?
When an atheist, you say, does something wrong, the atheist takes the blame. Really? Why should an atheist take ANY blame? Blame for what? What is "wrong?"
My effing word, I don't know a SINGLE CHRISTIAN WHO HAS EVER SAID HIS OR HER MISDEEDS WERE SOMEONE ELSE'S FAULT! You are just inventing truths, now. Christians don't shift the blame for their actions onto religion or God (your words). They admit their blame; they take responsibility for their actions. Few Christians, if any, say that because they are forgiven the consequences of their actions have somehow been mollified or eradicated. To be penitent, a thoroughly Christian virtue, indicates that sin is so grave no act of contrition can repair the damage; penance is simply a sign of wishing one could fix the damage one is responsible for.
As for atrocious crimes of hate and inequality -- whatever that means -- atheism has proven itself exceptionally competent at genocide, of crimes of "hate and inequality." In fact, it seems rather self-evident that atheists, who believe that life is without intrinsic meaning and death is nothingness, might very well be more inclined to send people out the exit door for all sorts of reasons. Oh, that's right, they have done just that, by the tens of millions -- for the great ideal of equality.
The universe didn't "create" misogyny. If anything, the universe was, the Earth was, chemicals over billions of years formed amino acids, pre-biotic metabolic cycles, cells, plants, animals, man... and then some man noticed he had big muscles thanks to testosterone, and he invented misogyny. And man had a reason: he realized that getting people to do things he didn't like doing (cooking, cleaning, gathering berries, raising children) for him would mean he could spend more time doing what he wanted to do... like going to the next village to enslave weaker people to work for him (that's how I imagine it going down, anyway... one lazy guy inventing the top-down structure of society).
ReplyDeletesooo historically inaccurate... :)

ReplyDelete"I don't know a SINGLE CHRISTIAN WHO HAS EVER SAID HIS OR HER MISDEEDS WERE SOMEONE ELSE'S FAULT! You are just inventing truths, now. Christians don't shift the blame for their actions onto religion or God (your words)."
So Christ didn't die for other's sins then?
That's not a very Christian belief.
Suicide bombers and would be assassins have said they were on a mission for God more than once. They haven't shown any remorse, and so their crimes are for God to judge, not us. That's placing the burden into a realm we can't even contend. For shame!
What do you call the monastic orders which whip themselves and scar their bodies in the name of God? If not punishing themselves for their sins, which they then repent for by asking God to take the burden from them? I call it a psychological disorder. The point you are missing is they aren't punishing themselves because they feel they did wrong, they are punishing themselves because they feel they offended God. Big difference here, but God is all forgiving, so the relinquish their spiritual wrong doings and let him take up the burden.
It's one thing to commit a crime, it's another to pretend that you are not accountable, or else only accountable to God.
ReplyDeleteAtheists who have committed crimes have not committed them in the name of any sort of God or any divine creed, but religious nuts get away with it all the time. It's how they can have witch hunts in Africa today, since they are being preached to that God wants them to find the evil out and rid themselves of it by killing elderly people and children.
How can they do this? They say God commanded it of them! In their minds, God's word is the ultimate law, so they don't need to answer to any man-made authority. They feel that they have permission, because of their faith, to enact such criminal acts. Then when caught on it, they don't say, yes, I am guilty. Instead they say, I was on a mission for God! I am doing his will, etc.
But atheists, they have no God to appeal to, and so cannot shift the blame so easily.
Penitence is just another way of saying, I feel bad because I know it was wrong, but I'm going to excuse myself on behalf of God. Every time a Christian espouses prejudice, such a hate crimes against homosexuals, or support of Prop. 8 discriminatory laws, they are simply acting in accordance with their articles of faith--even though this is morally detestable.
If called on it, they fall back on the God-excuse. The reference their holy books to cite chapter and verse! So I don't see how penitence has any sway on my argument when they can just as easily weasel out of it by claiming a higher authority, and once again, shifting the blame.
