NYC Mosque: An Atheist Perspective

I can’t speak for all atheists in America, but I honestly don’t get what all the fuss is about with the NYC mosque. You want to talk about offensive? Republicans ought to take a flying leap off a diving board into a pool of razorblades and salt for voting down health benefits for those hurt rescuing people from the wreckage of 9/11. I don't know how these wretched parasites sleep at night (I imagine on enormous piles of donar money).

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

  1. I totally agree. How is it possible that people can be so hurt by a stupid building, yet so unwilling to - I don't know - actually physically help and support the people involved in the damn rescue efforts on 9/11? I'm not trying to say that anyone who opposes the mosque opposes the first responder bill as well, but for those who do hold both of those positions - what the hell?

Also, have you read Sam Harris' essay on the matter? Oh man, I was pretty disappointed. I am shocked that an intelligent man like Harris would have the audacity to claim that Islamophobia doesn't exist. Whaaaaaa?

  2. I can't say I'm surprised. The "New Atheists" treat atheism like a religion (I think of it as A☨hei$m). Hitchens actually supports the Iraq War, seeing it as a fight against religious extremism.

As an atheist, I can honestly say there is clearly more Islamaphobia than Atheophobia. I'm not even looking for prejudice against Muslims and I see it more than I see prejudice against atheists.

Let's put it this way... when Republicans wanted to smear Obama, did they point to the fact that he might be an atheist (which could be argued via quotes I've seen pointed out from his memoirs), or did they plaster pictures of him in vaguely middle-eastern atire and call him a "secret Muslim?" Clearly they would know which is more hated, Muslims or Atheists, since they're usually the ones doing the hating.
