Discussion: Kill Yourself

Is telling someone they should kill themselves legally protected free speech?

  1. Perhaps not, but it's good advice.

  2. I would say no. There's a fine line where your rights end, and someone else's rights begin. Determining where that line is would be impossible because everyone sees things differently. But the Declaration of Independence says we have the right for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Even though that's not really a legit right in the constitution (or at least i don't think it is...i might be wrong...i probably am) it can still be used to help determine where that line should be.

    1. So you think telling someone they should kill themselves should be prosecuted as a crime?

    2. It is if you tell them that while you have them under hypnosis.

    3. Not necessarily prosecuted as a crime unless the person actually does kill themselves which could hold the person who told them to do it liable. It's really more of a morality thing I guess.

    4. Why should anyone be held legally accountable for what someone else does?

    5. I'm not saying that someone should be held accountable in every situation. but there are some situations where somebody should be.
example of why somebody could be held accountable for this: Maybe it starts off as simple bullying, it gets worse and finally the kid being bullied is close to snapping. The bully tells the kid they should just kill themselves and the kid goes through with it.

The kid killing themself could have been prevented if the bully wouldn't have done what he/she did. Therefore, the bully should be held accountable.

    6. To you, can bullying be purely verbal?

    7. No. cyber bullying, physical bullying. These are just the ones I'm most familiar with but I'm sure there are more.

    8. What's the difference between "cyber bullying" and satire?
